Delivers Dramatic Results

Supported by the proprietary characteristics and expanded capabilities of Nd:YAG and Er:YAG systems, Fotona4DTM from Fotona (based in the U.S. and Europe) is a boon for facial aesthetics offering four facets, including a novel intraoral laser treatment vector. The remarkably powerful and versatile SP Dynamis platform, with unmatched parameter modulation enables the dramatic, real results achieved with Fotona4D.

The 4D refers to four distinct SP Dynamis modes of treatment: Fotona SmoothTM, FRAC3®, Piano® and SupErbTM, all employed in concert for aesthetic use to combat facial aging. According to dermatologic surgeon M. Christine Lee, M.D., owner and director of The East Bay Laser and Skin Care Center in Walnut Creek, Calif., the most exciting of these is the intraoral non-ablative Smooth LiftinTM.

“This was originally designed to treat the oral mucosa for dental applications, but researchers noticed a plumping effect to the nasolabial folds from the inside, much like a ller,” she explained.

The Fotona Smooth pulses of Er:YAG laser deeply dissipate heat through all the tissues under the intraoral mucosa without creating ablation. The created thermal shock activates proteins that result in the generation of new collagen and lead to skin tightening in the target region.

As explained by Adrián Gaspar, M.D., owner and director of Prima Piel Clinic in Mendoza, Argentina, and Smooth Liftin pioneer, the procedure is typically painless, not requiring anesthesia, and can be done without any downtime. Moreover, it can be performed year round, including the summer months, without the risk of adverse events such as post-procedural hyperpigmentation.

Other modes of the SP Dynamis system offer their own dimension to the global picture. The Nd:YAG in FRAC3 mode harnesses a unique high peak pulse power structure that creates a three-dimensional fractional effect. With Piano mode, an ultra-long pulse is carefully modulated for deep bulk heating with the Nd:YAG. “This method allows you to raise the temperature of tissue safely, yet more rapidly than with any other technology I’ve seen, so you can achieve therapeutic energy delivery with only a few passes,” Dr. Lee pointed out. Finally, SupErb uses Er:YAG in a more traditional, super cial ablative resurfacing approach. “This fourth dimension is the only mode with associated downtime, and you can easily adjust the intensity to produce the level of downtime the patient is willing to accept, or avoid it altogether.”

“Together, these four unique laser modalities provide a full thickness penetration laser treatment that can really impress,” Dr. Lee continued. “You can treat superficially, as well as down to the dermis; provide volumetric bulk heating and then plump from the inside at just the right location for a synergistic effect. You get great results in one session, although as with other therapies additional sessions enhance improvement.”

“Reflecting on the history of medicine, we can see that the natural evolution has been towards more precise and less invasive treatments,” Dr. Gaspar shared. “Combining the three Fotona application modes of SP Dynamis with the fourth, intraoral Smooth Liftin mode gives the physician a new and powerful non-invasive therapy. With Fotona4D, our patients now have a multi-dimensional choice of safe and effective treatment options for their aesthetic needs.”
